US President Donald Trump surprised the world with his tariffs on Canada, Mexico and China.
Donald Trump's first tariffs were 25 percent on Canada and Mexico and 10 percent on China.
Mr. Trump stated that he would reinstate these tariffs on March 4 after a 30-day break.
Meanwhile, the tariffs on China continued.
But the real kicker was that Mr. Trump targeted Canada with harsh tariffs.
President Trump imposed new retaliatory tariffs on Canada and insisted that the only solution was for the country to join the United States.
In his view, Canada should become the 51st state of the United States.
Under this idea, Mr. Trump threatened to impose new tariffs on Canada, including a 250 percent tariff on dairy products.
The US President has said that the planned tariffs on steel and aluminum in Canada will now be 50 percent instead of 25 percent.
He also threatened more tariffs to permanently shut down Canadian auto manufacturing jobs.
However, Trump withdrew this decision after Canada suspended a new tariff on electricity destined for the US and the countries made plans for new trade talks.
Trump's retreat did not stop Canada.
Canadians have made incredible strides on tariffs against the US.
We're going to take a closer look at what these retaliatory moves are, and what the latest escalation of the tariff crisis between Canada and the US looks like.
We'll also look at the strategies of the US's biggest competitors who are trying to capitalize on this crisis and their relationship with Canada.
