At 1000 local time, an HC‑130J Hercules from the Coast Guard was on station at 25,000 ft over the Eastern Pacific, detecting a suspicious fast-moving contact nearly 190 nmi away. The vessel zig‑zagged evasively, old‑school counter‑surveillance, while the Hercules tracked it relentlessly for hours. Real‑time updates streamed over Link‑16 to the Kimball’s Combat Information Center, revealing that the 418‑ft Legend‑class cutter couldn’t close fast enough. Time to launch: the MH‑65E Dolphin lifted off, banking toward the target and approaching within 500 m. The crew used an LRAD to demand compliance; the smugglers didn’t flinch. Warning shots were fired via M240B, then escalated to precision .50‑caliber fire from a Barrett M107, disabling all four Mercury outboards one by one. With a speedboat stuck in the water, HITRON and Tactical Law Enforcement Team South poured in via RHIBs, boarded the vessel, detained the crew, and, for good measure – burned the boat to a crisp. This is maritime interdiction in full motion.
