Josh, 17, and Charlotte, 16, experience life for a week in India with the Sharma family. In this strict, middle-class Hindu family, father Sanjeev rules his kids with an iron rod. Education is all-important, so the British teens are immediately sent to school with 15-year-old Ankita. When Charlotte and Josh skip their second lesson, they are berated by the head teacher. Sanjeev becomes furious because his family name is at stake. While Josh wins a debate contest, earning the reward of being allowed out with Sanjeev's nephews, Charlotte refuses to go to school and tries to go home early during a shopping trip with Ankita. Finally, after a relaxing weekend in the country, Sanjeev breaks through Charlotte's barriers, and Josh also realizes how privileged he is. The teens return to the UK with good intentions to mend their ways.
