About This Nest
Two barred owls, affectionately named Tootsie u0026 Pops, have visited our backyard for years.
• Nest box built: 2023
• First successful brood: 2024 (2 owlets)
• 2025: No eggs laid
• 2026: 2 eggs confirmed
The box is mounted ~30 ft high on top of a dead hickory tree.
Because this nesting box is in our backyard, you might hear our dog, Remi, barking at a chipmunk she has been chasing, or our children laughing/screaming/crying, etc (or me and my wife doing the same 🫠😅 ). Fortunately, the owls are pretty familiar to these noises and have still chosen to nest here. While we try to limit distractions or noises that may stress them, the owls are well accustomed to these sounds.
