If you’re thinking you want to create and sell online courses, think again. Selling an online course may seem like a great idea but in this video, I explain why there are very valid reasons why it might not be your best option.

The online course industry is a $337 billion dollar opportunity. Since COVID alone, there have been 16,000 new courses that have been added to the marketplace. Seems like a great opportunity, right?

But according to some new research, the average completion rate for online courses is around 15%. If you're like me and you want to actually create and sell online courses that help people, then this statistic is alarming.

Second, the average price point for online courses is $137. Do you really think anyone’s going to stay dedicated to a course when they’re only willing to pay $137? The less you pay, the less you pay attention. This is all too true when it comes to selling an online course.

A lot of people create and sell online courses that solve nice-to-solve problems rather than must-solve problems. The people who buy these online courses aren’t likely to commit. After all, if it isn’t truly important to them, other priorities will inevitably take over and distract them.

When it comes to selling an online course, the juice just isn’t worth the squeeze in most cases. In fact, the ONLY time when you might want to consider building an online course is when you don’t need to – yes, that’s right. When you already have another profit generator in your business, then it might make sense to create and sell online courses. Otherwise, it’s probably a bad idea.
