From a Basement to a Billion Dollar Brand – The Greatest Founder Story You Never Heard

Video

Video Description

Monique Rodriguez built Mielle Organics from her basement into a billion-dollar brand and did it without a blueprint.

In this episode of Aspire, Monique shares the real story behind building one of the fastest-growing beauty brands in the world–from bootstrapping with her husband's paycheck to risking their home, navigating criticism, and ultimately selling to Procter u0026 Gamble while remaining CEO.

But this isn't just a business story. It started with loss, a leap of faith, and a decision to bet on herself before she felt ready.

This is a conversation about what it really takes to build something meaningful… and what happens when you finally reach the other side.

In this episode, Monique shares:
– Why you don't need to feel ready before making a life-changing decision
– How personal adversity can reshape your ambition and clarity
– What founders get wrong about scaling too early
– How to know when it's time to bring in experienced operators
– Why building with the end in mind changes how you run your company
– The real risks entrepreneurs take behind the scenes
– How to navigate criticism as your company grows
– What it actually means to lead after a major acquisition
– How to protect your vision while growing at scale
– Why success doesn't always eliminate the feeling of having something to prove

Monique Rodriguez's story is proof that you don't have to be ready to start a business, you just have to be willing.

*My story*

☉ 2019: Started at an agency making 100 cold calls a day. Switched a few jobs and became a Research Analyst at EY, a Big 4 consulting company. Didn't like the boring corporate life, so I quit to start my own ventures.

☉ 2020-2021: Launched a jewelry store, dropshipped Japanese techwear backpacks, and my fav one — sold dog toys on marketplaces (this one made more money than all the others combined, hah).

☉ 2021-2022: Got into IT startups. Without a technical co-founder, I built a few products myself using no-code tools: a note-taking app for medical students, a "bet vs friends" app, and a platform for founders to share their f-ups. Made every mistake possible—from shipping features for non-paying users to spending 6 months building stuff nobody needed (while struggling to convince 1-2 people a week to check out my product demo).

☉ 2022: Other founders began asking me how I got sales for my projects. The first guy I helped, who had been stuck at $0 MRR for years, got a few customers the very next day after executing my advice. I absolutely enjoyed it, and after helping a few more, I found my passion in coaching.

☉ 2022 – present: Since then, I've coached 100+ founders in every niche imaginable and helped clients book thousands of sales meetings, generating them 8-figures in new revenue. Love it, and I'm just getting started.

Solo founder, $80M exit, 6 months: The Base44 bootstrapped startup success story | Maor Shlomo

Video

Video Description

Maor Shlomo is the founder of Base44, an AI-powered app builder that he bootstrapped to an over $80 million acquisition by Wix in just six months. As a solo founder (with severe ADHD), he hit $1 million ARR just three weeks after launch and grew the product to more than 400,000 users, all while navigating two wars in Israel and never raising a dollar of outside funding.

*What you’ll learn:*
1. The growth playbook that took Base44 from three friends to 400,000 users without spending any money on marketing
2. How he hasn’t written a single line of front-end code in three months—and how to structure your code repository to make it easier for AI to write your code
3. His AI productivity stack that allowed him to compete against heavily funded competitors
4. Why being a solo founder in AI might be the ultimate advantage (and the wedding story that almost killed the business)
5. The story of signing the $80M acquisition deal while war broke out with Iran
6. How to identify when to sell vs. stay independent (and why Maor chose acquisition despite being highly profitable)
7. The counterintuitive product decision that tripled activation by removing a “helpful” feature
8. How building in public on LinkedIn drove more growth than any paid channel
