For years, I believed refinement was something you applied – the right posture, the right scarf, the right fork. Swiss finishing school (Institut Villa Pierrefeu) trained all of it.

But the most poised people I've ever met weren't performing poise. They had simply stopped asking "how do I look?" and started asking something else entirely.

Let me know the difference you feel after replacing the question from "how will I come across?" to "what impact would I make entering into this situation?" One question turns you inward and makes you anxious. The other turns you outward and makes you generous. People feel the difference instantly, even if they can't name it.
