Let me start with three numbers. India's GDP grew 7.7% last financial year. Yet the US dollar is close to ₹95 as I record this. And gold: a tola crossed ₹1.7 lakh recently, up from about ₹46,000 just five or six years ago. Put those three together and a strange picture emerges – we're one of the fastest-growing large economies, our currency keeps depreciating against the dollar, and gold is climbing relentlessly. So why does it feel like your salary buys less and less every year, and how should you think about your money if you want to be genuinely smart about this reality?

In this video, I break down why the rupee is falling against the dollar and why the dollar's rise acts as a hidden tax on everything from an Apple laptop to international travel – with the rupee losing roughly 3.5 to 4.5% against the dollar every year. I then explain why gold is really rising and why central banks worldwide have been hoarding physical gold since it's the one asset no single country controls. The real payoff is how to respond – smart diversification across geographies and asset classes. I share my own split, why jewellery is not gold investing, why digital gold and gold ETFs are the smarter route, and salary-band-specific splits across US markets, gold, and Indian equities.
